These are some of Penney The Clown’s favorite party activities and tips, picked up over her years of clowning, face painting, performing at kids’ parties, and having a blast with moms who know how to bring the fun:

1. Instant Memories
Take an instant photo of each guest with the birthday child as they arrive, as they get their faces painted, or as they get into a dress-up costume. Then have a craft project with picture frames the kids can decorate with stickers, markers, adhesive gems, feathers, and other fun stuff. (Avoid paint and glue, for your own sanity.) It's a wonderful keepsake to remember a very special day!

2. Have a Ball
This is a fun game that's popular in England. You take your small gifts for the kids and wrap them in layers into one giant ball; one small gift is wrapped within each layer. Then the kids sit in a circle and you play music as they pass the gift ball around. Whoever has the ball when you stop the music gets to unwrap one layer and get their special gift. It's a fun alternative to goodie bags.

3. Most Importantly, Relax!
Remember, you're not planning a luncheon for your boss. Kids are easily amused... some pizza, a clown, and a giant cardboard box can keep kids occupied for hours. It's nice to have activities planned, of course, but don't wear yourself out trying to keep a rigid schedule. Go with the flow, and enjoy watching your child enjoy her special day and her friends.
