Meet Heidi
Bernet
Heidi,
pictured here with Joshua, is a volunteer for this year's
Walk
Now for Autism Speaks event, taking place Sunday, October 4 at Raley
Field in Sacramento.
WIFE & MOM
Heidi says marrying her husband, Michael, and choosing to have children
were the best decisions she ever made: “My family is the reason
I get up in the morning!” Heidi and Michael live in Woodlake
(“It’s the best-kept secret in Sacramento!”) with
their daughters, Ava (5½) and Mia (2), and their son, Joshua
(4). Busy but energetic, Heidi says she tries to “enjoy every
minute (even the annoying ones) because they grow up way too fast!”
VOLUNTEER CHAIRPERSON FOR
WALK NOW FOR AUTISM SPEAKS
After Joshua was diagnosed on the autism spectrum,
Heidi wanted to get involved in the autism community, “but I wasn’t
exactly sure how,” she recalls. Then a friend asked her to volunteer
for Autism Speaks. “I jumped at the chance,” says Heidi. “I
felt it was my opportunity to give back to others touched by autism.” Last
year she served as a Walk Chair, helping to organize Sacramento’s first-ever
Walk
Now for Autism event. Even after going back to work full-time, Heidi never
doubted she would be part of this year’s event too.
The best part of being a mom is…
Watching our kids grow and getting to be their teachers.
The
toughest part of parenthood is…
Fitting it all in 24 hours and still making time for my incredible husband.
What do you like most about living in Sacramento?
I love Woodlake! It was built in the 1930’s and has lots of families
with young kids.
If you
told me 10 years ago where I am today, I’d be surprised that…
Autism has touched my life so deeply.
When I
am elected Queen of America…
All autism therapies will be covered by insurance.
Describe yourself in three words:
Passionate, Motivated & Energetic
My favorite
junk food fix is…
Anything chocolate!
When I
need to relieve stress, I head straight for…
The Bikram Yoga Studio.
My favorite “me-time” activity
is…
Getting a massage or pedicure.
My favorite
place to hang out with my family is…
Our neighborhood Swim Club.
My motto
is…
Embrace what you’ve been given, and do your best at everything you do.
